The thing about Ivy Bridge is just that it disappointed the community. Ivy Bridge could have had way cooler temperatures than what they have, just because Intel saved a couple pennies replacing the nice iridium solder with off the shelves TIM, greatly reducing the heat dissipation capabilities of the IHS.
Ivy consumes less than Sandy, but it can't push that heat out as fast as Sandy can.
