Hey Overclockers! I'm new to you're forums but I have heard only good things about this community! I'm hoping you all will be able to give me some advice/constructive criticism on my upcoming build. This will be my second build and my first time trying to gear appropriately for potential Overclocking. As far as overclocking goes, it has always been of interest to me but I have no clue where to start, or what hardware works best for the job. I'm going to list each component to my build with a link to its page on newegg. If you all could be so kind as to look it over, consider my build and maybe offer your thoughts/concerns that would be amazing! I am also open to alternative hardware ideas if mine may not be as good as the one you would be suggesting!

I have already ordered the following:

NZXT Phantom Full Tower
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146066

Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823114026

Razer DeathAdder 2013
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...153114&Tpk=death adder 2013&IsVirtualParent=1

Even though the mouse and keyboard are not really relevant to a build I'm proud of them so I figured I'd toss them up anyway! :attn:

Everything below is what I'm looking for opinions on:

(My overall budget from here on is just over $1000.00)

G.SKILL Sniper Series 2X4GB Ram (3X4GB) 1600

Basic DVD RW Optica

Coolermaster Heatsink for CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16835103099

Corsair TX650w PSU

EVGA GeForce GTX 760

Western Digital 500GB 7200 RPM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16822136769

Grand total comes to - $1019.91

So here are my thoughts. I have read that the 4670k is not so great for overclocking. Originally I was going to go with the 3570k but it didn't match the LGA 1150 on the mobo. I also would like to incorporate a SSD. I don't need more than 250gb at the moment anyway being that it will strictly be a gaming only computer. There will be no music/media on it or any of that. If there would be a way to work things around and meet the budget while incorporating an SSD and getting rid of the HDD without losing too much performance that would be Ideal!

So that's what I worked out. Two things most importantly, Keep in mind when reviewing this that I would like to experiment safely with overclocking and is this the best build for the budget?

Thank you all for your time!

I was thinking about doing the TI. I am doing some research on switching out the 660. I've been on the fence about the ram as well, I hear you only need 8gb for gaming, tops.

You can cheer for the case, mouse, and keyboard as I've ordered those. I haven't ordered any of the hardware yet. I wanted some feedback first.

GTX760 ? much better pick. They sell at 260$ ... this is cheap for what you get !

get a good 2x4gb 1600mhz ram set. This board is dual channel DDR3 ( not triple ).

I think the kingston will be fine, I'll just knock off one of the sticks.

Okay, solid answers. You only ordered the gaming perifs. Good for you.

Thanks for letting us know. Be specific please, we are not in your bar drinking and talking to you. Internet. 100000 miles.

Why would you still stick to ordering a triple channel set (meant for X58) when you're running Z87? So you can leave one of the sticks out? What are you going to do with that stick? It doesn't make any sense. Buy a dual channel kit. 8 or 16GB. You only need 8.

That's what I meant, I'll buy 2X4gb. I'm not going to buy 3 4gb sticks and leave one laying around...

I've corrected the above list to show the updates I've made in the GPU and Ram.

Hey, welcome to OCF!

When trying to recommend a build to you, there's some information that's extremely helpful for us to know. If you could answer these few short questions, we'd be happy to help!

  • What are you planning to do with this computer? Please be as specific as possible.
  • What is your budget (in your own currency)?
    1. Does this include a copy of Windows?
    2. Does this include peripherals (a keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers, etc.)?
  • Are you from the United States or a different country? Are you ordering from your own country or from across borders?
    1. Wherever you may be from, does the store that you are planning to order from have a website? It's okay if it isn't in English, we can manage.
    2. If you are from the United States, do you live nearby a Microcenter?

Once again, thank you in advance for taking the time to answer these, and I hope you enjoy your stay at OCF! :)

The computer will be used for strictly gaming. My budget is $1050.00 not including the tower. I'm from the US and ordering withing the US. I'm going to be doing my ordering from newegg.com. Links and all info you need are posted above in the initial post.

There are some a couple hours away. Closest thing to a microcenter would be the Tiger Direct store about a half hour away.

All of that you listed originally looks great, but you know that Blackwidow Ultimate you listed says it for Macs... Q_Q

rofl good catch, I fixed the link. I didn't actually order that one from newegg. It's just a link to it. I ordered it from gamestop's website. I had trade in credit from my xbox360 I traded it. Trade in covered mouse, keyboard, and mouse pad. =D. Amazon's sell college books option paid for my tower and 2 extra fans as well!

I figured that giant heatsink would be sufficient. I also ordered an extra 200mm fan for the top of the tower so there will be 2 up there. and there's also another 140mm fan coming in as well, on top of all the fans that are already coming with the tower itself.
