Hi guys,

I am no longer in to gaming so looking to downgrade and purchase a nice cheap BUT speedy office PC for general use while at college and facebook, skype etc.

The base of my build needs to be around this small case - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cool...l-size-vga-supportupto-3x35-or-4x25-hdd-usb-3

Here is what I plan on getting-

Case - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cool...l-size-vga-supportupto-3x35-or-4x25-hdd-usb-3

Processor - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...bridge-dual-core-33ghz-3mb-smart-cache-retail << Debating on this or AMD FX 6300 (but have been told the intel's are better even with less cores, Tell me more please)

PSU - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/430w...-bronze-eff-uncertified-quiet-fan-atx-v23-psu

RAM - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ...SM4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356099110&sr=8-1

Motherboard - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-micro-atx

SSD - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120g...0mb-s-write-510mb-s-23000-iops-83000-iops-max

Could anyone here give any advise on this in comparison to my current rig (see sig).

All I want is small PC, that I can tuck away and can do daily tasks.

Please comment below with improvements etc! £400 is max budget

(hopefully Ajay will reply)!

Well change to these to instead and save some money without losing any Processing power etc. ;) :santa:

Just use the rest of the parts in your list and case as well!

OK, "MR Oxford you wish is my command" by the way hows the Bosses Laptop?

Bosses laptop is flying,! Typical guy that has no clue though, as long as it makes no noise and loads in 30 seconds hes a happy bunny, but it is a very nice laptop aslong as he keep it in order with the tools you suggested. :)

Awesome!, couple of questions.

I don't game at all now, I take it a graphics card would be a waste of money? and would not improve normal computer use in the slightest e.g. speed?

Also what about going for the FX 4100 or 6100 its cheaper and would it perform the same? :)

Cheers!

Correct. The iGPU on both the AMD or Intel are plenty to handle the tasks you have described.

Currently have the FX 4100 and works a dream. Its also cheaper than the i3, so not sure :S

Just have to sell my Pc on ebay 1st and hope that runs smooth :)

You'll need an ITX board for that case, neither of the boards linked are ITX...

Here's a MSI B75 ITX board on scan.co.uk that's about the same price as your linked board.

Other than that, the components look fine for an office PC.

If you take your time to read the ASROCK Mobo spec sheet it already supports Blu-ray and 1080p as well. And i think me and ED suggested the same Mobo to a member for his wife build. It will work really nice with that CPU as well. AJ.

uhh sorry Matt is that case the OP Linked a Mini ITX Case? Here's the link to double check please!

The intel CPU is a good processor, couldn't make the difference between it and my 2500K when I had it in my system for testing - that is, doing everyday stuff, and I still had my GPU. Probably AMD will have a better onboard graphics solution for the same price... I'd still go with Intel though, but that's more of a personal choice.

Well that Intel CPU doesn't have a good onboard graphics solution. Intel HD 2500 is getting old and was never that good. You have to be sure you won't be needing much. It will handle facebook and skype and do 1080p vids with no problem. If he needs more and prefers intel, he can go for the i3 3225 which has HD4000 graphics.

Yes it is... read the link.

Form Factor: Mini ITX

Yeah I realized how negative my reply seemed and it wasn't really my point so I removed that part. Your 3225 solution would do the trick anyway, and what is it like 10$ more to get it I think?

Do i say i have my mini and micro mixed up for sure here Matt?? If so we need to look again at a Mobo for the OP?

the choice has been made, Intel it is. Currentally have AMD and is fine but would be nice to see why Intel is much more prefured.

I see what you meen by the graphics, The only things I use it for is facebook, twitter and skype and Youtube. Possibly some word processing when I am doing college work.

Aslong as the HD 2500 can run 1080p youtube vids that is fine, otherwise ill have to spend £20 more to get the one with HD 4000

Yes, it's Mini ITX only. Those are the first words in the link if you click on it and look. Plus, you can tell it's ITX only since there are only 2 expansion slots on the back of the case, which means motherboards with more than 2 PCIe slots won't fit. Micro ATX boards have room for 4 PCIe slots, so they will not fit in the case.

ITX is 6.7" x 6.7" and has one PCIe slot and 2 DIMM slots. mATX is 9.6" x 9.6" has room for up to 4 PCIe slots and room for 4 DIMM slots.

Try to find a better seller though, I don't think you should have to pay that much more for it.

Mini-ITX rests in your hand.

Micro-ATX is still the better part of a standard ATX board, although it is drastically cut out where power users need to see space. :)
