Hey folks
I'm planning my next build. And I'd love to do something unique with the internals. I wanted to run it by you folks first to get your thoughts, is this doable/safe/advised, etc.
I'd like my next build to be fairly "free standing", ie. out of the case, and exposed. I plan to liquid cool everything...both video cars, the cpu, the memory, and the bridges. Such a free-air design would be easy to work on and would also be a "discussion piece" in my game room. Arranged correctly I think it would be quite cool to have a free standing mobo, cpu, vid, mem, etc, with cooling tubes running to- and fro-. Anyway, that's the gist of what I want to do.
Is this adviseable? Are there other components that depend on the "moving air' within a case? What about mobo cooling? I'm sure there is something to cool mobos, though I've never seen or used it. I suppose if mobo heat is the limiting factor than I could simply mount a couple fans to blow up from beneath, or across from the side.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Would this thing fry itself? Would the dust accumulation need to be a daily concern? Seems like components get nothing but stagnant air and dust pushed all over them inside of a case... if the whole rig is liquid cooled then could it work in free-air conditions? Maybe even work better?
I'd plan to keep the hd's and the psu inside the case. And then (somehow) extend or get extensions for all the connections (prob easier said than done...I am worried that finding SATA, mobo power, etc extensions cables may be difficult, but I haven't yet begun to look).
Anyway, thoughts/feedback much appreciated.
Thx!
