Could someone please explain to me the main differences between the opteron and the socket 754 amd64. Why is the opteron so much more expensive than the same speed 3000+ series? Bigger cache? Thanks alot for the advice. :)

it does have bigger cache, but also its a server product, meaning it is probably individually tested by AMD more rigourously than regular desktop chips because of its importance to work right in its actual application. also no matter the speed if its a 2XX or 4XX chip, then the mem controller is more advanced because it has to talk to 1 or 3 other processors respectively, and coordinate their processing power.
