HDMI audio output is apparently rather flaky in Linux. Nothing I do seems to be able to fix it so it doesn't periodically drop out. So I'm looking for a USB sound device with optical output that supports Dolby Digital and DTS encoding. I've got a Sony receiver that I know already supports either one, but finding a device with said output is a pain to search for. I've found a bunch of Xonar USB devices that might work, but they're all coax output, not optical, which I'd prefer.

does the motherboard have built in audio? without knowing the board, most i have seen have a optical jack.
