PCIE extension

I'll be mounting my gpu sideways, and just thought should I worry about the pci extenders at all? IE if I'm using a pcie3 card, and motherboard, with a right angled pcie riser, and an extender ribbon, do those last 2 components need to be rated for pcie3?

It is physically the same connector, so as long as it is just an extension, it doesn't matter.

I wanted to add that you might have to worry about interference. I saw this build log where SLI didn't work until shielded PCIe ribbons were used. Might not be an issue for you.
