So with 3 chassis fans and 2 liquid cooling fans (which will be y-connected to the CPU fan header) and with only 3 other chassis fan headers, I thought that it might make the most sense to attach the liquuid cooling pump into the CPU_OPT fan header in order to free the Chassis fan headers for the actual chassis. Furthermore, with my motherboard being able to adjust the fan speed on all headers, (except for the CPU_OPT header) plugging the pump into the CPU_OPT made the most sense to me.

Am I on the right track or am I about to short circuit something?

:welcome: to OCFs.

Give us a list of your system and cooling. No idea what we have here at hand.

Also, be careful with Fan headers on the MB as most can only handle 1 amp if I recall correctly.
