Problem With Wireless Network

I brought a 2 Belkin wireless network cards 54Mbs and for some odd reason the speed starts at 54Mbs then goes down to 2.0Mbs or 1.0Mbs has any got an idea why?

Do i need to buy an access point or a wireless router to boost the signal?

What sort of range is there between them and how easy is teh line of sight, how many walls, how thick

lol god man i dont know how thick they are but its only about 7metres away theres also about 3/4 walls in the way

The bigger the distance, and the more mass you have in the way, the lower the speed it'll run at. I have the range extending antennas and I can go all the way to the street till I lose my connection slows down or gets lost. I hope this helps.
