Specifications of the computer are

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2-B3
RAM: Corsair 1333mhz 8gb DDR3
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core G2030

The CPU cooler im using is an intel stock cooler. The only thing this computer is really doing is running The Specialists 3.0 HLDS.

The problem here though is that the cpu fan keeps spinning on and off. I want the fan spin at a low speed and speed up as necessary if the cpu really does start getting hot.

Is there anyway to do this?

Has the CPU cooling fan always behaved this way? Does it spin constantly when you put the CPU under load or does the fan behavior you describe only happen under idle and light loads? The CPU you have does not make much heat and may not need the fan to be actively cooling the CPU all the time. It's socket 1155 so there should be plenty on ebay if you want to go with a stock Intel cooler.

its always behaved this way. from the looks of it, it would start spinning when the cpu was around 40c and then stop when it reaches 35c.

does not matter if there was a load on the cpu. im sure that if it was kept under load it would constantly spin in order to try and keep the temps down.

All the stock Intel CPU coolers I have installed (and that's a lot of them) have PWM fans and none of them have exhibited intermittent activity like you describe. They should be constantly turning but at various RPM levels according to load temp. You say this behavior is independent of load so I would be concerned that under load the CPU might overheat.

Have you done any actual temp monitoring under load? Install HWMonitor and Prime95 and watch the temps under load.

But really, those stock Intel coolers are a dime a dozen. Just get a different one or an inexpensive aftermarket cooler.

I turned of all power saving features and had the processor run at its stock speed. I ram prime95 for about 20 min while hwmonitor was running and found that even with the cpu staying at 50c, it would still idle down and then spin back up.

This cpu fan is basically wavering regardless of temperature. So i will see about getting either a third party or another intel cpu fan.

yep it was the fan. got it replaced with a delta fan since it appears that the nideq fans are known to do this (from what i read) and now it works normally.

Went from being annoyingly noisy to just a silent whirrrr
