Early reviews says it's almost the same as QX9550 I think. Perhaps my memory is faulty. Has anyone seen QX9775 on sale? I saw it on intel's website.

I think it is the only skulltrail compatable processor. If I had enough money I would do a quad-sli 9800GX2 and dual qx9770's, but thats a LOT of money

It's been out for a while, it's nothing more than a 1600FSB version of the QX9650.

Yep, nothing more then a 1.6GHz FSB version of the QX9650 as Albuquerque stayed above. Not worth it at all.

What seems crazy is that newegg listing says its $1500 and RETAIL, but in the item description says:

i thought skulltrail was just dual quads + quad SLI. not necesarily a specific socket

Nope, skulltrail uses socket 771 with 775 mounting holes.

Socket 771 is for workstations and lower end servers.

The only compatible proc for skulltrail is the QX9775

EDIT: Don't forget that oyu need to use FB dimms

I've got one (QX9770) and it works in an X38 system at 1600 FSB. (Gigabyte X38) So far though, I've only been able to get 4.2Ghz. I've also got a QX9650 and in the same board, it does 4.33, 24/7 folding (100% load)
Still sweet chips. I may look at knocking the FSB down to 1333 and upping the multi to see if it'll go higher with a lower FSB.

Both are running 1.3875V.
