Report from Sandra.

Think I finally found the problem. Tell me what you think. I just visited OCZ and took a look at my RAM specs.
My RAM is unbuffered. Sandra gives this warning message in its report. Do you think that has anything to do with my problem?

Warning 100 : Large memory sizes should be made of Registered/Buffered memory.
Tip 2546 : Large memory modules should be ECC/Parity.

I would go here http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=20349 download the spd Editor. Check one pair and then the other and save the files. Open two instances of the editor and compare them to be sure all values are the same.
The voltage is rated at 2.75 according to OCZ website and auto is 2.6 on mine so bump that up to spec. Did all the slots work when you tested them one at a time by themselves?

no...the last two (DIMM_B1 and DIMM_B2) gave me beep errors. But maybe that is because one stick is only supposed to work in DIMM_A1 or DIMM_A2. I don't know.

I will change the DDR voltage and try that spd editor and report back.

Thanks

have you tried running them at 333mhz JUST to test to see if it will work? BTW careful with the voltage, ram can be sensitive so make sure you know what it can take.

Shadow that SPD program is awesome. I found the problem.

It seems that even though the RAM has the same basic timing specs somehow I bought RAM that actually has different part numbers. Don't ask me how. The part number is what I always look for first so maybe somewhere along the way I chose the wrong RAM because I had been looking at so many different modules online.

Anyway what's done is done. The good news is that my slots are fine I guess.

Maybe you can tell me if a work around is possible. If not, then I guess I am forced to sell on eBay.

The difference is specs are as follows:

SDRAM access from Clock
[old is 0.65 ns - new is 0.70 ns]

Minimum Row Precharge Time (tRP)
[old is 15.00 ns - new is 10.00 ns]

Maximum device cycle time (tCKmax)
[old is 3.00 ns - new is 2.80 ns]

Maximum Read Data Hold Skew Factor (tQHS)
[old is 0.50 ns - new is 0.80 ns]

SPD Revision
[old is Undefined - new is 0.0]

New Module Part Number OCZ4001024ELDCPER2
Old Module Part Number OCZ4001024DCPER2-K

SPD lets you adjust specs so should I do that? Should I still increase DDR Voltage to 2.75 in my BIOS?

I would not flash any sticks yet as it voids the warranty.
Try these settings as they appear on the bios screen,
2.5
7
3
3
11t
24t
4t
3t
These settings are only slightly slower then stock and as the spd's are different it might work. try it at 400 and at 333. If it boots at either setting you can change the cpu setting to raise the ram speed to 200 mhz.
Because 1 set is 5-2-2-2 and the other is 5-2-3-2 it might be hard finding settings that both pairs like.

Thanks. What CPU setting are you referring to and what should the DDR Voltage be at? 2.65?

Ok I tried and no luck...I'm just going to sell the pair on eBay. I had planned to sell my system parts anyway so it's ok. I really appreciate your help. You showed me a lot of new stuff :)

On an unrelated note I have one other problem I thought you could help me with since I'm here. I was booting from an external USB HD last week because I was testing an OS. I have since removed the USB connection but my machine is still trying to boot from it even though it is not listed in the device manager or BIOS device list. Screen shot below.

Is there are CMOS function I can try that will set all my HDs back to just the two SATA HD's I have? Or should I just reconnect my two SATA's and see what happens?

osselectionri5.jpg

The first line is the previous external USB HD.

Second line is another OS on SATA 1 that I'm using now.

Third line is another OS on SATA 2 that I use for testing.

I always have to hit F8 at the BIOS screen to make sure I get to this menu bypassing the "you have the wrong drive configuration notice". How do I remove the old USB HD instance?

I would leave the voltage on auto for now.
I was refering to , if the mobo will boot at 333 then ram would be 166 so you could lower the multiplier to say 8.5 and fsb to around 234 and htt to 4x wich would make the ram speed right around 200. This is only if it will boot at all with the four sticks. I have heard of mobo's forcing the 333 divider when all slots are full but was unaware that this would be one of them.
Will it boot with the two new sticks in a1 and a2 with one stick of the older ram in b1 or b2 ? (using the above timings)
Will it boot with one stick in a1 and another of the same in b1 ?
