Hi there,

It was almost 10 years when I posted here asking for this forums final say on my build back then. I figured it was time for an upgrade and as I've been out of touch with the hardware world, I was hoping some of you could take a look and let me know if what I have spec'd is proper. There is no budget, just want to build a machine for Video-editing and Gaming.

Here is what I've got so far:

Intel Core i7 3770K Unlocked
Western Digital Red 3TB SATA3
x 2 - Raid 0 Setup
Crucial M500 240GB SSD
Noctua NH-D14 Heatsink
Gigabyte Z87X-D3H
G.Skill RipJaws 32GB 4x8GB
Antec Twelve Hundred Case
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780
Corsair TX750 750W

It all comes to about $2,400 CAD after its all said and done, which isn't too bad.

What do you all think? Where can I improve or add?

Cheers

Looks good. Was going to say you don't need 32GB of ram, but you might for video editing :D (just for gaming, you won't need half that).

The only thing I would change is instead of the Crucial SSD, spend the extra $25 and get a 250GB 840 Evo, especially if you don't have a set budget. Higher IOPS, faster reads, and over twice the rated write speed.

Edit: Also - I just caught something. You've picked out a 3770k and that's a socket 1150 motherboard. Might want to swing for a 4770k, as it's the newer architecture, and hey it's $10 cheaper.

What he said, the 4770K looks better here everything else looks good to me.

As far as the Mobo I'm not saying anything, I used to use Giga long ago and had problems with capacitors leaking, but I'm sure that has been fixed over the years. I became a Asus fanboi and stuck with them after that I guess.

I still like my 1200 and has been doing a nice job for years, but these look pretty nice these days too and if were rebuilding currently I might try one out.

But I still do like my 1200 personally, I'm not going to dis my baby.

It's a bit modded from when I bought it I guess, not even sure what the new 1200s are, but the stock fans on em used to not be real great other than the 200 in the top.

I was going to recommend maybe a Antec CP-850 PSU also if you're getting that case, but appears they may have died out. They were cheap and good a few years back when they came out, Delta PSU's.

Actually, it appears Antec still sells them at home apparently.

Awesome replies - much appreciated

I made the change to the CPU and the SSD.

Which Asus Mobo would you recommend? I wish I could get something with thunderbolt but seems impossible to find.

Also that CP 850 PSU is almost double the price of the Corsair TX750 750W - Is it worth it?

Thanks for all the help!

I would keep that Gigabyte board.

For a PSU, get a Seasonic G550. You don't need anywhere near 750W.

That or one of these as Seasonic makes em.

I was looking around earlier and saw em on sale with the rebate.

I'd snag one of those while on sale myself if I were you even if not modular.

The CP-850 I grabbed at the time when they were introduced I guess and where about 90 bucks then I think, maybe a little more it was long ago and caught em on sale, just thought I'd throw that one out there.

Is a pretty nice PSU for 1200's
