Visiontek 4850 $135* / 4870 $225* @ Best Buy NO rebates

I work at Best Buy, caught an ad for tomorrow.

They're going to have the 4850 for $149.99 in store and the 4870 for $249.99.

They don't do rebates or any of that mumbo jumbo. Just go in, pay for your card and leave. But act FAST! Our store only has 5 HD4850's and 5 HD4870's, and when we had the HD3870 deal for $129.99, I thought to myself, "Meh, I'll get one later, computer gamers don't shop here often". They were gone at the end of the day.

I found a link to the ad scan at Slickdeals so you can see for yourself.

EDIT: Combined with 10% off coupon, the price is $135 in store + tax.

The 12% was one I had gotten via reward zone in the mail. But here is a 10% coupon that works.

Excuse the noob question, but whats a better deal....a 4870 for $250, or a GTX 260 for $200?

4870, hands down. The 4850 beats the GTX260 in some cases.

The GTX 260 also beats the 4870 in some cases. "Hands down," that's just flat out wrong.

The GTX 260 almost completely destroys the 4850, and for $50 less that the 4870, it's close enough in performance to be well worth it. OC's better, runs cooler, uses less power as well.

edit: I was baffled by wondering's response, now I get it.. I see that 4870 in your sig :p

The 260 doesn't "destroy" the 4850 in any of the tests I looked up. Maybe 5-10fps, max. Which I don't know how that merrits "completely destorying" anything when the only this it destroys is your wallet.

5-10fps (in games where the difference is that small) can mean the difference between playable and not.

Look at it this way: The GTX 260 beats the 4850 in almost every test. I'd call that destroying. I stand by my assertion that the GTX 260 at $200 is a better deal than a 4870 at $250. The numbers back me up.

I will be ignoring any further ATI trolling, that's not what this thread is about. 4850 at $150 with no rebates is a good deal. 4870, meh.

what about a 9800 GX2....those seem to be going for about 200 as of late

As I have often said the 9800gx2 is the best card in its price braket but you have to deal with issues of more heat and power draw then other graphics cards. On top of that due to the way they made the card aftermarket cooling is more needed then a conventional card but also much harder to do. The 9800gx2 will also lose resale value faster then single cards if past trends continue.

That being said performance wise it cant be beat overall by anything going for $200-275 currently

If your going to post up a 9800gx2 for an acclaimed $200 you better include a link. That goes for the others with gtx260.

I think this a great deal for a 4850 & 4870, no rebate and at a local retailer.

I don't think this is that great of a deal when you factor in TAX.

If you don't live in NJ or CA (I'm so glad us NYers are back to no tax for newegg), you can hop on a Gigabyte 4870 for $260 shipped (which would be less than Best Buy with $250 plus tax). On top of that, you can get a $25 rebate too, making it $235 shipped AR.

I know people like to shop local, but I'd rather return to NewEgg than Best Buy anyway. Gas prices make it more simpler for me to say "ship it" than to drive somewhere. Just my 2 cents. :)

eh, I just pulled the trigger on two 4870's. Got them for 200 each shipped...so I feel like I got a good deal.

Hopefully my psu doesn't melt down.

I pulled the trigger on the open box ASUS last week from newegg for $205 shipped (before they gouged it to 230) and I have zero issues. Best deal I've gotten probably.

I picked up a 2nd 4850 today so I could go crossfire. I paired the sale price with a 12% off coupon I had, so total paid was $139.72 out the door for it. Cant go wrong for that price IMO.
