Hi guys!

I am helping a buddy of mine build a new rig so he can play Diablo 3. It will mostly be used for gaming, movies, and web surfing on his 50 inch 1080p TV. This will probably be his rig for the next 5 or 6 years at least. I will be ordering everything from amazon and newegg. His budget is around $1000 which I am having trouble staying near. I made a list on newegg but it's $400 over and thats not including a cpu cooler yet. I need some suggestions on how I can get it closer to the $1000 mark and also on which cpu cooler to get. I just put together this list based on newegg reviews and prices without much research so I am certainly open to changes.

Here is the list:

Some questions I have about my list:
Is ivy bridge worth the extra money?
Air cool or those closed loop water coolers?
How is that motherboard?

Look forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

+1, that list doesnt work. You can just type it out. Does he need also buy a case? Windows? Mouse/KB? Assuming not...

3570k
Asrock Extreme4
2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz ram
HD7870
Corsair CX600

If you have a Microcenter close by, you can find the processor a lot cheaper.

+1 what ED said. But...

OCZ ZT 550W PSU Or
Seasonic M12II 520W.

Non-modular PSU's are for tight budget builds IMO... Modular is just too nice these days for the most part.. IMO anyway.. I know I could never use a non modular again for my main rig.. (With the exception of like a Silverstone Sugo case or something that comes with a PSU thats decent).

Thanks for pointing that out guys. I've edited the post to include the list.

Don't need Windows, mouse, keyboard, or monitors. I have a Microcenter about an hour and a fry's electronics that is local. I'd rather not drive all the way out to microcenter unless its a really good deal and worth the one hour drive.

You tell me if its worth it...

Amazon 3570k - $220
Newegg 3570k - $230
Microcenter 3570k - $190

Not to mention: The deal is $50 off your purchase of any Z68 or Z77 board with a 2500K, 2700K, or a 3570K, so feel free to grab whatever CPU/Motherboard is in your budget, as you'll get a great deal anyway.

That's a great deal! Unfortunately the motherboard is out of stock at the location i'm closest to (California - Orange County/Tustin). Looks like most the other locations have it though.

asrock mb came back in stock, saved me around $80 bucks with that combo!

Thank you guys for the help and suggestions! I ended up going with the following build in case anybody is interested.

Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory
Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
ASUS Black Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS

Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST2000DL003

Looks great. Remember to update the firmware of the OCZ Vertex 3 the instant you get it lol.

The Three Hundred is a nice enough case... But its a bit older now. Cable management isn't the best; but can be done with a little bit of thought.. Especially with a 620W Neo Eco.. The 520W would've been plenty ^^.

But nice build man. Very solid/balanced.

I agree with Mjolnir on the firmware!

And how much was the final cost?

The total came out to be $1,092.86. Got the MB and CPU combo from microcenter, and got the rest of the parts from newegg and amazon.

First time dealing with an AMD card and might be the last. Spent the last 3 hours trying to install the AMD Catalyst Software Suite. Just reinstalled windows to try again. So frustrated, wish I'd gone with nvidia card instead.

+1. ^^

Check first before you go updating firmware... the issue has been resolved for quite some time now and I would bet that most units shipping now, have the proper firmware on it...but again, check to be sure.
