It all comes down to product support really..
I'd suggest getting a set of Corsair sticks, but then again - anything you get should have similar lifespan.
 
Every company has defectives.
A lot of, I'd even say most of, the "DOA" newegg reviews are people that ESD'd the poor ram and killed it.
Newegg reviews are, in a word, junk.

I'd be pretty surprised if 1600 wasn't doable on a set of 1600 sticks that hadn't been molested.
 
It's standard RAM with standard settings so there shouldn't be any issues but as it was already mentioned each part can be defective no matter what brand or series.
It's 1600 9-9-9 1.50V kit but some boards can have problems to run at this voltage ( some are undervolting or not reading SPD right ). In this case I would try to set a bit higher voltage like ~1.55V.
