Transfering files with USB

I'm in need of some advice on how to transfer files between two comuters with a USB cable. The computers have different operating systems, one with WinME and the other with XP. The questions are do need some kind of special USB cable, and where can I get software, preferably free, that I can transfer files with. I'm hoping that ME and XP have some kind of native support for this kind of thing so it won't be too much trouble. I've already done a search and I didn't really find anything that helped, so i'm sorry if this question has been asked before. Guys got any info on how I can do this?

you might be better for cost to get a cat 5e crossover cable (it is a cable like from your highspeed modem to your computer) providing that you have ethernet cards installed on both machines and not dialup modems then follow this guide no software needed.

crossover being the important word there. A straight-thru cable will not work

Ah, indeed. Thanks for that reply, I was going to ask if a "normal" cable would do.
