I'm hoping to upgrade my Athlon XP box (the faster one in my sig) to A64 this summer. Can I do it for only a couple hundred dollars, without selling anything? Actually, I might want to sell my video card and upgrade that, and I've already ordered 512 MB PC 3200 RAM. Can I upgrade my motherboard and CPU cheaply?

Yeah, there's plenty of good cheap mother boards for the A64 and the processors themselves went down in price dramtically over the last few weeks. I did a lot of research on this because I purchased an A64 system last night.

How much exactly do you want to spend?

Here is a good combo:

Depends on how much cash you have. You can get the even cheaper 3000+. I recommend going with the 1MB L2 cache version (ClawHammer)

Chaintech put together a great mother board. This mobo shows that you don't have to sacrifice performance and overclockability because of price. It perfoms and overclocks on par with the other, more expensive motherboards.

The exact amount I have to spend will depend mostly on how much I can get for all my SCSI stuff I'm selling soon. I'll probably have between $200 and $400 to spend.

well...

a 3000+ is about 167
the EPoX EP-8KDA3J is 100
and OCZ EB PC3500 512mb is 166

all that is around 433, but i see that you already have new ram so i dont think that would be that neccessary
