VAIO Screen always dimming

I have a sony vaio laptop running windows 8.1 and I've gone into VAIO control center and turned the auto-dim feature off yet for some reason the screen keeps dimming to a very dark and almost unusable state. I've gone into the power options and selected the high performance option as well and moved all the brightness sliders to maximum yet after I exit the page the screen dims again.

Can anyone offer a solution?

Does the laptop have the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel?
