Well, I'm building a new PC soon, what do you think of these parts?

I think that's everything I need. Haven't build a computer in so long, so if I've left out something or you think I could do better, please tell me. Also, I hope this is the right section, if not please move it and sorry.

Total: $3,182.89

If you think you know a way to get something somewhat like this for cheaper, please do tell. =)

I'd goto an Intel build, get slower/cheaper RAM (your not gonna notice the difference), and 2 8800GT's for SLI, or 2 ATI HD3870's for Xfire

Do you plan on RAIDing the HDD's?

Drop that off the shelf liquid cooling, go high end air or custom water.

I'd try for a 24" 1920x1200 LCD as well.

For 3k I think you can have a much faster rig.

Many of those parts are very expensive and offer little true performance increase.

I'll edit this and put together something for 3k

*build*
PSU (I didn't see you list one) Hiper 4S730 730W PSU 145
Mobo: Gigabyte DS3P rev 2, 145
CPU: Q6600 G0 stepping (search around for the G0 stepping) 250
Heatsink: Thermalright U-120 extreme with 120mm fan about 65 bucks from svc.com
RAM: wintec 2x1 PC8500 1066FSB (2 sets, 4 sticks, 4gb) 160
GPU: ATI HD3870 x2, 450
Sound card: X-fi gamer 75
LCD: Dell 2407WFP 500
Speakers: Klipsch 5.1 Promedia (do not get GMX) 275
HDD: well, 4 500gb Seagate 7200.11 drives is 500 bucks...read about intel matrix RAID and run a slice of RAID 0 and then another slice of RAID 10
CD drive: 30 bucks, any will do
Case: up to you, figure 100 bucks

Total is 2500
This setup is highly OCable, and even stock is faster than your rig, and you saved almost 1000 dollars (700 less and another 250 for case and PSU)

no raid on DS3P???

I'd go...
Q6600 G0
either Gigabyte P35-DS3R // Abit ip35-pro
4 x 1 cruciall ballistix pc6400
2 x 8800GT (evga/xfx/bfg)
HDD: 2 x 500gig 7200.11 seagate drives

Case/speakers/monitor is up to you.

For cooling... if you are ready to spend 250 bucks on cooling, i'd say make a thread on the water cooling forum and ask for a setup. Custom water cooling is MUCH better than kits.

Otherwise, i'd say grab something like a zalman9700/ultra 120 for the cpu, some yateloon fans for the case and a fan controller.

Can someone tell me the purpose of 2 8800 GT's?

running two videocards at the same time. This is the concept of nvidia SLI.

The 8800GTX is old tech now compared with the newer 8800GT with the G92 core. The 8800GTs are also so cheap and perform so well for their price, that having two of them in SLI is usually chosen over going with the one 8800GTX.

Which also reminds me, i posted a P35 mobo, u would need a 680i mobo for SLI.

Does anyone have any idea on how I can get ~$2500 in a week? Do old computer parts sell for anything these days? How much would a old 1.2ghz duron 512mb ram PC sell for if I wiped everything from it?

? you wanted to build a computer for 3200 and now you don't have the funds for a 2500?

You could probably sell a 1.2ghz duron and 512 RAM for 25 dollars, the computer in your sig is probably worth 300.

Computers are not investments, they are expensive and depreciate. If your hard on cash, definetly do not get a high end computer.

you'd be lucky if you got 50 for it.

I was getting a list of parts so I would know how much it all would be. I expect to have the funds for it in no more than 2 months. Or is that to late and just build a computer with newer parts?

In 2 months things could change, so wait until you have the cash and then we can give you a better idea. Also, in 2 months GT's and 3870's *should* be easier to get a hold of and cheaper.....but computer hardware *should* get cheaper after it launches...in the GT and 3870's case, the prices increased! (supply and demand, makes sense why it happened, it's just rare!)

Bryce, You defiantly should have the money before pricing out, assume a high end system will cost over 2000, so when you have 2000 you can price out,

in the mean time, you should spend time on this forum.
Surf the CPU sections, Ask questions Learn about, SLI/Crossfire,
Learn about RAID.

Simple advice. If it's not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY don't get a computer until you have the funds in hand. Then decide what to get.
