I'm trying to find the best speed/size memory to run in my Asus x99 R5E & Deluxe/U3.1.
I already have 4x8GB (32GB Total) G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3200 CL14-14-14-34 memory. I know from Woomacks testing that these memory sticks can hit 3866+. I have installed and attempted to Overclock them on the R5E motherboard. I have set the BLCK to 125.0 and the memory to 3250 (this is the base freq from the BLCK) CL14-14-14-36 @1.6v and the computer will give a memory error. I have loosened the timings to CL16-16-16-38 and still the motherboard gives a memory error. I have set the memory to 3000 CL12-13-13-36 @1.6v and have booted and benched with no problems. I know Intel motherboards like faster memory, even if this means loose timings.
Should I continue to try and get a higher speed for my memory or be happy with what I have??
Would reducing the memory to 4x4GB (16GB Total) make it easier on IMC to overclock???

Thank You For Your Help

X99 can't handle very high memory speeds which is likely why you're getting errors. 32-3400 is about max typically maybe up to 3600 but that depends on CPU/mobo

If those 8GB modules are dual rank, then switching to 4GB modules which are all single rank (in DDR4) could help. Are they B-die? If so, I suspect you're already single rank. Personally I find 3200 a decent enough speed for general (non-benching) use.

I've also found some scenarios where some memory speeds (multiplier/strap/bus combos) just aren't liked by a system, and a different higher clock one works.

I’ve been using a DDR4-2400 32GB Quad channel kit since I built my 5930K system and I never had the machine feel slow. I’d say anything above 2400 is gravely.

I think this is under the guise of benchmarking... MM?

I was looking at Benching.. If you say that I need to go with 4x4GB (16Total) I'll toss the 4x8GB (32GB Total) in the x99 Deluxe/U3.1. I'm going to use it as a server anyways and I need memory for it.
I'm currently benching the R5E with 32GB of Sammies. When I was at the Bench Party (it was mentioned but never explained) Jiccman had 4x4GB DDR4-3000 & 4x8GB DDR4-3200. He said something about OCing the TridentsZs verses the Ripjaw5s but it was muttered not stated. I never got around to asking as I stayed with my CHVI-Hero & x1800 setup for the LN2 benching. I'm bringing it up now because I need memory for the x99 Deluxe. I would like to go with the cheapest option but also want the best for the R5E.

Thank You For Your Time

This is where I run mine quite stably for benching, they are 4 GB Corsair sticks https://www.pc-cy.com/product/corsair-dominator-limited-orange-ddr4-3400-cl16-16-gb-kit/ on a Gigabyte SOC Champ using the 125 strap

From your post, you are mentioning but not saying what I need. This is like Philly, it's muttered in a low tone but not clear and explained.
My best option with the IMC on the i7-5960x is to run 4GB Sticks/16GB total. Trying to find good 4x4GB DDR4-3200 - 3600 memory kits is hard.

you arent kidding there are absolutely zero cas14 4gb modules from 3200- 3600 @newegg. i would just go with the cas 16 3600 4x4 kit ripjaw5 blacks. or if you have deep pockets go with 4x8gb 3200 cas 14 or 3600 cas 16. what two kits do you currently have?

From OP's original post. I'm already running the good stuff with 4x8GB (32GB Total). to Woomack for his memory testing. My sammies can hit 3866+ but not on my R5E x99 board. They are rated for 3200-CL14-14-14-34 @1.35v But can't do more than 3000-CL12-13-13-36 @1.6v. The best I think I have found is 4x4GB (16GB Total) G.Skill Ripjaw V Blacks 3600 @17-18-18-38 for $300 at the EGG :) I would love to find some 4x4GB 3600 CL16 memory on the 1st (When I get paid:( )

I'm asking for advice as I know others have/ have had an x99 and benched it.
What memory size 4GB (16GB Total) or 8GB (32GB Total) did you use???
What where your timings for best speed - 2800-3200 with tight timings (AMD Style) or 3600-3800+ with loose timings (Intel Style).

I was NOT an Intel Player until I got my R5E. I ran AMD/ATI for 15yrs and have only recently moved to the Dark Side = Intel/Nvidia.

Here is a Screen Shot of my memory timings that I benched on my R5E w/i7-5960x. Do I need to loosen my timings to try and hit 3200??? How loose do I go before there is no difference between 3000 and 3200-3600 on benching???

Taking a look at the number one subs at HWBot is what I do when I'm not sure M_M, learn it use it.
Looks like they use 4x4GB 3000-3200 with tight timings because the 5960X has a weak IMC
