Looking at buying new ram for my new build, going to be a 17 4770k with a asus max hero board. What is the best ram option for this board. I have heard numerous arguments that anything past 1600mhz is a waste and might not be as fast due to cas. Well since all are in the same price range, besides option 2 (Going for $110 on newegg now) Just trying to see whats the best buy for my set up. Mainly gaming and some rendering as well. The ones that I really want are the 3rd choice in the list. The second choice is almost the same but has 10-11-10 30 2N ($110) while option 3 has 9-10-9-28 2N ($154). Are you going to see a big difference in the two, I believe not and since its almost $50 cheaper now, is it worh getting? I believe in the situation, due to the 1600 9-9-9-24 2N ($149) that these could be a better choice but whats $8 more dollars for a little faster ram that could help out. Doing the math, the 1866 due have faster performance, but we are talking small margins here. Any suggestions on what Ram to look at if these are not the perferred choice. PS I will use a NH-14 cooler (40mm is the clearance according to nh website)

I will be the first to say i am no guru with PC ram, but 1600mhz is the sweet spot for Haswell. But there are other things to think about, and that is the IC Chips on the PCB Board. As you can get different quality and hence better performing Ram modules as well. ;) :attn:

The best you could do is read this work by Woomack the Ram King!! If you are really interested in finding the correct ones.

What are you using the Rig for and do you really need 16g of ram? If it's strictly for gaming get the 1600's Cl9. A you also choosing those sticks due to looks? If not and it's for gaming I'd go with these and they'll probably do 9-10-9 1866 anyway.

I am using it for heavy gaming and some rendering. Prob don't need 16g but was just getting it anyways. No, not really for looks, I know everything will be black/red look, so was looking to maybe stay with red but not a deal breaker at all. Those were pretty much the same price as the other ram that I had selected, any reason to go with these?

Yes and no from what I remember the Crucial Ballistix Sport had good ic's and they overclock well. Though I've used numerous G. Skills and have had no issues overclocking them either. Other then that it was priced based. In gaming you wont see much of a difference with 1866's over 1600's in rendering you may. You may want to check this thread out.
