I see googling around that the PCIE power plugs for the 8800GTX are not like the normal PCIE pinouts. Various sites tell me that the std pinouts are:
GND GND GND
12V XXX 12V
However, I see the single PCIE plug on my PSU is:
GND GND GND
12V 12V 12V (confirmed with a voltmeter).
Adapters that convert Molex to PCIE convert the "standard" way (sort of, they usually put GND to the unused (X) pin), which causes my computer to refuse to turn on.
I have an XFX card, and they provided no adapter. Any ideas where I can get one? Will I brick the thing if I split one of the existing 12V lines and put it to the pin that's now GND and shouldn't be?
