Ok,
So in watching for deals on parts over the last few months for building my system I've ended up with more RAM than I should have, not a problem I've amassed enough other budget parts and with stuff I have laying around I should be able to build 2-3 other systems to sell to help fund my madness...

It started with: (not all were bought at newegg, link is just for specs)
8GB (4x2) - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 9-9-9-24 1.5v ($30)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144

Then I found a deal for $10 more I got 16GB, but it's 2 kits so 4 sticks in total.
16GB (4x2+4x2) - Patriot Viper DDR3 1600 9-9-9-24 1.5v ($40)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220685

and then the deal I lucked into and couldn't say no to...
16GB (8x2) - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 10-10-10-27 1.5v ($22)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233246

For what I do (gaming, basic stuff and some GIS mapping) 8GB would be fine, 16GB is overkill but should last me a long time...

Question: Cas Latency 9 vs 10, would I see any real world difference in speed?

I'm thinking the corsiar 16GB kit is the way to go, it would still leave me 2 slots free if for some reason I should ever need to upgrade.

ya i would pick up 2x8gb kit but i perfer to have extra Ram
8 would be fine
i say go for corsair 8gb sticks

I say, might as well use the Patriots, they are the same as the Vengeance, although are double in size and match the MOBO better (just keeps the two sets matched up and in order within the dual channels).

I say get the CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 you probably would need a upgrade before you need more ram.

true but if he going to run this system for 4 years im pretty sure 16gb will not be overkill
but it varys how long will this system be used and if hhe wants to spend the extra $40 or not, i agree with you 8gb right now is perfect but why not get the extra Ram if you can afford i would get it so you can throw it is and not worry about ram space

Pretty happy with my Vengeance kit here.
I currently have 10 gigs installed, never utilized more than 7, Windows 8 + all the applications I could ever need running utilizes 2,5-3GB.
You can always add more RAM if needed.

Thanks for all the thoughts, I'll start with the 8GB corsair kit and offer the 16GB kit as an upgrade option in the mild gaming building I'm going to sell. If I can make a decent profit on it I'll sell it, if not I'll keep it and use it for myself.
