Will a single 8800GTX drive a 2407?

I'm looking to buy either a 22" flat panel, or a 24". I worry that my single 8800GTX will not be enough to drive a 24" monitor in games with max settings. I have gotten used to gaming with max settings@1600x1200, and I dont want to give the settings up! Anyone actually game on a 2407 with an 8800GTX? Would I be better off with a 22"@1680x1050?

TIA

What kind of games are we talking here?

Mostly, FPS stuff. I dont really have any new games, but stuff like BF2142, BF:V, FarCry, Raven Shield, FEAR if I ever get it, COD 2, 3 etc.

Well I run BF2 at max with my GTS at stock clocks. The 2407 is an awesome monitor, defiantly the best money I've spent on a computer component.

I run at max resolution on a 2407 (1920x1200) with a 7900 GT. Also, a friend has a 2407 with a 7800 GTX.
Oblivion runs a little slow (fps dips <20) but Far Cry is very playable.

i have a BenQ 24. my 8800GTX powers it at max res just fine. FEAR avg is about 40fps while CoH is 90fps. Thats using my stock clocked GPU settings and a C2D 2.1G proc.

i run my 2405fpw with a x1800xt 512mb with HL2DM (source) and can play with 4x/8x hdr 1920x1200 all other settings maxed and i probably get an avg of 50-80fps... :)

come to think of it, i haven't played hl2dm in a while... :(

Use to run my 2405FPW with a X1800XL and it ran decent, running it with a X1900XT, and it will surely run very well with a 8800GTX. Toss in a slight OC and im sure it will be perfectly fine.

Thanks for the input. Just when I decided to get a 22, you guys make me consider the 24 again. I went to BB, CC, and Costco tonight looking at monitors. IMO, seeing a 22 up close to a 24 makes the 24 seem like ALOT more money for a tiny bit more monitor. But then I have to consider resolution as well... I dont know. I think the 22 may be enough for what I do. I just want something big, but portable for LANs, decent for gaming, and easier on the eyes long term vs a CRT. I think I might get buyers remorse if I go for the 24 having seen one in person finally. Then again, I didnt game on either, so who knows how happy I would be with 1680x1050.... I think I'm about to talk myself into saving $300... Do you guys think I would be disappointed with a 22 over my current 19" CRT? I game at 1600x1200 now. Would I see an appreciable difference in IQ running the lower resolution?

Thanks again.

I've never owned an LCD monitor. I have a 21" flat screen CRT that I run at 1600x1200 @100hz all day. The image quality difference between this and every LCD I have seen is noticeable and I won't buy an LCD because of that until this craps out.

Granted it isn't portable or anything, but it was the best $75 I've ever spent on a computer component.

I'd say go with the 24" if the max resolution is higher. You are less likely to notice the difference then.

lol. My 7900GTX can push most of my games @ 1920 x 1200... I have a 24" gateway.

Thats one of the major reason's why I got the 24" two months ago...

The monster cards shine better @ higher resolutions. Seems silly to have such a awesome card and you're crippling it with your monitor.

If money is your main concern, and your post (the one talking about 22 vs 24) is riddled with money issues, then I'd just go with the 22".

I'm the same way when it comes to CPU's and GPU's (hmm...8% gain for double the money, pass!).

I'm planning on buying a 30", myself.

I was just reading up on this last night, tweaktown had some great articles comparing the 320 and the 640 GTS/GTX in single and dual card configs.

It boilded down to this...

GTX on the other hand is for gamers who play their games at around 1920x1200 and want to turn on all the cool 3D effects such as HDR, AA and AF. SLI a couple of 8800GTX cards and say hello to ultra high resolution gaming with all the settings turned up.

so saying a single 7900GT would work fine with the 2407 without any OC?

Probably work for most things I'd say with a 7900GT. My X1900XT does pretty well but struggles in a few games.
