Will my storage server setup cause connection speed problems?

I have been looking at Mythbuntu, MythTV and Media-portal for running my HTPC. I have my video on several drives (one for tv shows, one for films) on a ClarkConnect storage server, I know some of there media packages have a client end and a server end, which also stores the video, if I go for one that has a server/client option will I suffer from slow connect due the data having go from storage server to media server to media client?

over a 100mb or better connection it should be fine
