Whats the difference? I don't get it. I've seen some people with Xeon in the sig, some with i7, but are they actually the same? Cos I've also seen 'i7 Xeon wxxx" or whatever it is.

Is there a difference or are they essentially the same? :\. (i7 and Xeon).

when intel applies the "xeon" name, they can generally take more abuse heat wise then the desktop parts. yes they are both architecturally the same, intel does enable some features in "xeon" that i7's wont get. as they xeon's are ment for server environments not for highend usage. though you will find some OEM's touting highend pc's with xeons as the cpu.
