Hi everyone!

I have an old dual Socket 604 / 800 MHz FSB system with Irwindale xeons (Intellistation Z Pro 6223).
Now I got two Xeon E7330 quadcores (1066 MHz FSB, core architecture), which would fit into the socket.

Does anybody know if I can use them in that machine, running a little underclocked?

I know the E7330 xeons are designed to work with the Intel 7300 chipset, but didn't find much info on google if it is possible at all to run it with
an older chipset (E7525 in this case).

Probably the BIOS woudn't accept the CPUs, but can I at least try it without damaging something?

Thanks for your advice!

On 775 stuff, if the board cannot support the FSB the CPU will not run.
However, you can do a padmod to make the CPU report that it is an 800FSB chip.
I expect you can do something similar on 604.

The chipset is likely a larger issue, it was a pretty big change from P4 to Core stuff. I don't know the answer on that one.
