Greetings, so for a while now I've been wanting to upgrade my PC but always have been hesitant.

I'm wanting to buy a GTX 680 (Currently owns an ATI 5850), I've been on newegg but there's so many version and the price can differ up to a 100$, so which 1 should I get.

Here are the 2 I've been having an eye on :

GIGABYTE GV-N680SO-2GD GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

EVGA 02G-P4-2685-KR GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature+ w/Backplate 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

I really appreciate all the help I can get :)!

What resolution are you playing at? I'd be hesitant to purchase any 2 GB card if you plan on keeping it for a while as some games are already edging near and some can be over 2 GB on memory usage.

1080 x 1920 less makes me feel nauseous haha.

The game I would play the most currently would be, Planetside 2, Battlefield3 and I'm looking on playing some very high end graphics games being released in the next years.

I can say on BF3 I would definitely go for a card bigger than 2 GB. I play at 1680 x 1050 and usually hit 1.5-1.7 and max I've seen is just over 2 GB of VRAM used. I would look at the 670 4GB which seems to be around the same price as the 680 2 GB if you want to stay Nvidia or go for a 7950/7980 3GB which will save you some coin.

Hum, so what you're saying is that a 670 4GB would be better than a 680?

In my opinion yes. I upgraded my 5870 only due to lack of VRAM not lack of power in general (though I wanted a new card just because as well) and when I bought it 3ish years ago I never though much about the amount of VRAM as 1GB seemed like plenty. Now with already pushing or exceeding 2GB I'd be worried about not having enough in a year or 2.

Sort of. The 680 failed at onboard memory.

BF3 in multi will max that card out on single screen 1920 X1082 LINK

Best bang for buck is the 7970 as it is cheaper and beats out the 680 in almost everything. If you overclock it, it kills it.

Hum, so 7970 beats the 680 when it's not even OCed and when the 680 OC itself (I think or was it the 690).

Once again the price varies from 400-600$ for the 7970, how can there be such a difference?

PS: Thanks a lot for the feedback, I realize now I have a LOT to learn hahaha!

Sales, deals, etc. I'd say snag the gigabyte card, but they removed voltage control from these ANd the EVGA classified cards. (Retarded nVidia)

7970 is a screamer, especially at your much higher resolutions-- The 680 is a great card, but your needs kind of whisper an ATI route.
