I came across a rather frustrating but easily resolved problem after installing my 8800GTX. After I initially installed the 97.02 driver, my performance got cut by more than half approximately. Not sure why it happened, but I reinstalled the drivers and the problem went away. I did some mild overclocking and ran 3DMark05 and 06.

So, the first set of numbers indicates the runs with the bad driver at all stock settings and the second set indicates the mildly oc'd figures and results with the good driver.

Also wanted to get some ideas from you guys/gals on my next set of upgrades. Keep in mind I'm looking for cost effective upgrades/mods seeing as how I'm still recovering from the vid card and PSU purchases. My current plans are to upgrade cooling all around, but not too sure what is best for my setup, I'm just getting into oc'ing so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
ZER0

Get that CPU OCd.

I can hit 8910 with my 7950gx2, you should hit probably 9200+ ;)

Could that be my problem? I just put my 8800GTX in and got just over 7,600 3dMarks in 05..

With my X2 3800+ at 2.5GHz I also got 2260 in the CPU test.. With 1.x FPS..

Edit: Just re-installed my drivers and it's still the same.. I had a similiar problem with the X1800XL but everyone told me it was a problem with the card so thus got a new card and now I'm still only getting 7,000 3dmarks in 05 compared to the 6,000 I was getting. This is ridiculous and really starting to p*** me off..

It better not be my damn mobo/CPU..

well i think it gose to show that 8800 cards are bottlenecked on AMD systems for most people. There is likally a few that arn't, but for people on single cores like me, there is absolutly no point getting one.

Mine isn't a problem with cpu bottlenecking, rather a problem with the CPU/mobo itself I'm fairly sure - for some reason my CPU scores, etc have always sucked since I bought the PC a year ago - changing from an x1800xl to an 8800gtx hasn't even really changed my score.

In the next few months I'm probably just going to rip out my mobo and cpu from pure frustration and crab a core duo.

i don't understand why you wouldn't get one. it only seems like they are bottlenecked for benchmarks and not actual gaming.

Yea so far when gaming in high res there is no CPU bottleneck for me at least, I am looking to overclock my CPU but not to familiar with all the options. Anyone got any solid recommendations for liquid cooling. I'm gonna be getting Danger Den's 8800GTX water block as soon as I can, so, goona need a setup to run it and might as well cover all the other major components while im at it.

Thanks for the help.

P.S. yea I just OC'd with ntune. The functionality is still there. From what I read Nvidia is just preventing the distributors from overclocking for some undisclosed amount of time. Not sure why.
