Hey guys, I am new here and very new to pc building. I am going into my junior year of college as an engineering major, and have decided start saving up to build a pc in the fall before college loans/costs of life start building up. My goal for the pc is to use it for doing mechanical engineering work when my professional career begins, running programs such as Solidworks/Autocad etc, but for now it will be used to replace my dying PS3 for gaming. I would like to build the pc for the future so that I will not need to upgrade it in the forseeable future. My main issue at the time is that I can not seem to find a video card that will be best for my uses, but I am very new to this so I am sure that many of my other chosen parts are wrong also. I will list parts below. My budget for everything (excluding a monitor for now) is going to be between $1000-$1250 ON BLACK FRIDAY ;) I am hoping that with the sales then I will be able to get a little better bang for my buck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Let's look at things in the fall. What parts are available at what price nobody knows in 6 months. So to plan now and then build that same build then woulnd't be the most cost efficient... just something to consider.

That sounds good to me, do you think that my budget will be enough for what I am looking to do?

As a junior, you are going to be starting your "real" engineering courses. Most of the programs you will use are probably not what you're expecting. Likewise, you need to find out if your school gives out student licenses. Most of the time you will have to buy the programs through your book store, and even then can be of considerable cost. I'd recommend "build for gaming", not for homework (labs are there for a reason), and certainly cross this bridge closer to november.

Just wanted to say- buying a sub $100 soundcard is literally like lighting money on fire and throwing it out the window. Any decent motherboard audio is going to sound the same to the average listener as a sub $100 soundcard. Only at $160-200 do soundcards start to sound good, and even then, only on speakers closer to $1000, which, if you have them, you're better off running digital from your MOBO to a receiver/amp than you are running an analog soundcard.

Don't spend your money on redundant items.

Also, buy a gaming GPU. Programs that use CUDA can use a GTX series card just as well as a Quadro card, albeit less efficiently. Conversely, that Quadro card isn't going to be too good for gaming.
