No they wont. Any DX10 software will be forced to either tap into DX9, or run through DX9 via a software layer (= higher CPU usage).

So the Question is how is this going to work with the next gen of software?

just like it did when dx 8 & 9 were factors.

dx10 is suppose to be superb compared to dx 9 but isnt that what they sa about all new things... "its better" ..

this is purely specualtion but i have a feeling that the 7900 gt will be close to ATI's king and the GTX will barely be crowned.

if your thinking of getting one of these cards thats exactly what id do... just think about it.. wait for dx 10 and 8*** series or what ever ATI throws in the game next...

or if your rich buy it and let us poor pc guru's know whats up

my guess is you won't get the candy eye visual with the current cards. You will have to upgrade both your card and os.

well seeing how the 7800GTX 512's have seemed to vanish off the face of the planet i hope these cars are not a bit let down but to be honest, we arent going to truly know untill nvidial puts these cars out for sale. i havent ever been in the market for a new videocard when they pull this type of stunt and to be brutally honest...its ****ing me off. if they were smart they would release a 512 me card at the same time as these other 7900's not in april...i am not waiting untill april to get this crap, if a 7900 GT is a shrunk 7800GTX i might get 2 of those but i donno.

the thing i hope happens first is i get my $1300 from the friggin goverment!

Will the New 7900 512 be better than the ATI?

It's much a case of wait and see, and it depends on whether you mean in terms of raw performance, of bang-for-buck. Right now, i'd say ATI's X1900XT/XTX have the upper hand in both price and performance over the 7800's, but lets see what nVidia have to offer with the 7900's

Yes this would be great to see.

So what's the price gonna be for the 7900gtx? High 600's?

Rumors going around to be at least $600.

Is this the card to compete with the x1900xtx?

Current speculation is that ATI will remain king. However, we won't truely know until the card is actually released.

And even if it's a bit faster, it'll be hard for them to get the logical crown now that the x1900xtx prices were cut to $499. Ati is really giving a run for the money right now. Even x1800xt for $300 will be haaard to beat.

7900GT in 24 pipes? Looks like a volt-mod wonder to me for cheap GTX speed. :D

Considering people hate locked pipes, makes sense to limit the voltage on the board, give it slower ram, and sell them cheaper.

Earlier today some preliminary benchmarks of GeForce 7900GT and GeForce 7900GTX were leaked onto the internet pending the March 9, 2006 launch.

System Configuration:
Athlon 64 FX-55
1GB DDR400 (2x512MB)
nForce4 motherboard

All tests were performed with a 1280x1024 resolution. The cards tested claimed 1.2ns DDR3 for both cards. ForceWare 84.12 was used for testing.

GeForce 7900GTX 512MB
650mhz core clock, 1600MHz memory clock
3dmark 03: 17800
3dmark 05: 7600
3dmark 06: 5200

GeForce 7900GT 256MB
450mhz core clock, 1300MHz memory clock
3dmark 03: 13800
3dmark 05: 7000
3dmark 06: 4550

For reference, 3dmark06 on a similar system scores approximately 4700 for a GeForce 7800GTX 512MB running at stock speeds.

We already had a fairly thorough look at GeForce 7900GT, GeForce 7900GTX, and GeForce 7600GT -- all expected to launch just a few days from now. The Quad SLI ready GeForce 7900GTX will launch on the 22nd of March.

id prefer to see what ocforum members get out of them ..

overclocks is what counts in my eye's.. then we can compare to ati...

nice to see them on some nice opty setups...
