hooking up digital camera to tablet...App needed?

I have a good tablet that has only a 5mp camera with no flash, and I want to sync my digital camera to the tablet...will it auto recognize or will I need a connection app?

BTW, I have all the cables and converter bits needed for direct hookup.

Tab is the new Dragon Touch X10 octacore with 4.4.4 kitkat

Yea, EarthDog, I kinda was thinking that, but want to take it slow on this tab..This is the best tablet I've had so far, and do not want to bork it...It does reckognose the wired PS3 controller I have even though not all the functions are working in Asphalt 8 Airborne.
