now i need to make a pc upgrade... ram, cpu, mobo, video card. all i have is
$530 (shipped). i can purchase the things i need, but if i buy a new psu, then i wont have money to buy a mobo or ram for this setup. this is why im asking, is a brand named psu necessary? im not overclocking, this is why im getting a 6400+,Ballistix ram, and msi 8800gt 512m version. would the psu i have now be able to push this stuff? im on a k9n4 sli-f mobo. also need help on getting a good amd (am2) mobo... thanks.

alright. so is the 550vx any good? or should i get something better? the 550vx has 41amps on 12v rail... im lookin for a reliable psu with mesh around the wires to make it look decent in my thermaltake armor.

Remember that power supplies can get ratted way over what they actually can put out / handle. The more expensive PSU's tend to be underrated while the cheapos are way over. There are also a lot more things to look at then just the Wattage rating.

That being said, I have no idea about the PSU you mentioned, hehe.
