Linspire 5-0 Standby problem

using Linspire on my Signatures Laptop, and cannot seem to find a way to get the standby(S3) to work, it goes into it, but then the screen just blanks out when coming out of it.
any suggestions?

This mentions a potential solution to the issue where dell inspiron laptop displays do not recover after suspend.

Google seems to show a lot about this problem, I think it's common and seems fixable.

Dell has a crappy history of linux compatibility. I think they go out of their way to make their hardware break with linux.
