Hey everyone,

I'm looking to build a new system for under a grand. I was wondering if you could give me advice on what I have picked so far. Thanks!

1. Welcome to the forums :)

2. Why not just one 500gb drive?

3. Is 8gb of RAM necessary for you? What are you doing with this computer?

Well it wasn't much more expensive:). I am going to be running VMWare and playing a few games. I wanted RAID1(2 drives).

Thanks for the welcome.

I have been reading about a lot of problems with Seagate drives lately. You may want to consider a WD. They make a 500gig with a 32mb cache and a 5 year warranty that goes for $70 shipped at newegg.

Good luck with your new rig and :welcome: to the OCF! :beer:

If I'm not overclocking do I need to spend 49 dollars on the Tuniq tower?

Alright, I switched to 2 500Gb 32mbCache WD HDDs

total = $1,074.52

The 250GB 410AS drives you had selected are rock solid. They firmware problems they had do not affect these drives. Personally for a 500GB drive I would go for the single platter Seagate but most people are going to steer you away. JMHO.

No, you do not "need" a HSF if you do not intend to OC but I would go ahead and get it for two reasons. 1. It will run cooler and quieter. 2. You will get the OC bug so it will save you from tearing your rig apart later to install one. An alternative would be the Xigamtek S1283 w/ bolt through kit for a but less money.

Is my performance going to be a lot worse using RAID1 over RAID0 or no RAID?
