LarsWestergren writes "A few months ago Slashdot reported that [0]Dell was considering using AMD for server CPUs, but most people rightly remained sceptical since Dell has announced this several times before and always backed out. Well, according to the Register [1]you were right to be sceptical." From the article: "Dell, however, doesn't seem concerned by these pricing issues or the fact that Opteron outperforms Xeon on numerous benchmarks. 'We believe that Intel has responded,' Rollins said in the wire report. 'That is now beginning to put customers more at ease that they don't need to make a shift (to AMD).'"

its not really surprising since it does make more sense that intel mobile chips consume less power than amds.

Maybe you should read the topic before posting.
Dell was considering AMD as an option for servers not for notebooks.

To me it's not surprising at all. Honestly, I think Dell just does this to gain some more leverage from Intel and it's a lot easier for Dell to maintain just one CPU supplier, rather than worry about two.
Keep in mind that AMD has had many slipups and problems over the last few years, especially when concerning supply, and I doubt Dell would want to worry about that.

Yep I am sure this whole thing is just being used as a scare tactic to get Intel to drop their price on each chip by 50c or something like that. The only downside to it is that AMD gets teased by having such a big customer knock on the door and then walk away.
