Well i dunno if this is just my computer, but i am NOT impressed at all with need for speed hot pursuit 2. Here is a list of my problem history:

Installs Newest 8500 drivers (just off a format)
Installs game
Game is running good
Turns up graphic settings
Game looks good isnt laggy, crashes (this is on my 8500)
I read that you cant play it with full settings, yey now i get to enjoy choppy edges
I play some more, crashes, I play it works again
I try again now it crashes at loading screen again

Mohaa, Ut03, and numerous other games work fine.

Looks like I am waiting for the first need for speed patch.
Sucks when you buy a game and then it lets you down.

u can play on high res. just turn down world or car detail...

i get problems at 800x600 everything one notch down, grr where is the patch !!!

But i want the settings high it dosnt look near as good. Gets me angry that my computer can handle it but the program cant.

just hope they get a patch out for this game real soon, i think so PC version was really rushed out and have loads of bugs

i have the game and have had no problems, i run the game at 1024x768 with details up almost all the way, and still get a framerate high enough to satisfy me, and i would just like to add, i think the game is awesome, best detail in cars in a pc game i have seen yet

The solution to your problem is the "Special Effects" slider. IT must be turned down -1 from max. The others can be left at max.
