One whole 40gig Samsung drive...

It's 2 years old now, it started out whisper quiet, but now it's whining like crazy...

A new HDD is next on my list of stuff to buy. It'll prob be about 120gigs.

the problem with the 120gigs is that the cheapo ones are pretty slow, although i get like 298MB/s and 32 MB/s from hdparm -tT which measures read performance (buffered and unbuffered) which is around average.

it's just my backup disk tho and it only cost $99.99 :D

cheers!

Well, I'm not buying one at teh moment, so no worries there.

By the time that I actually raise the money for one, I'll probably be able to afford a 200gig one (I hope :D)

160GB here.

2 80 GB IBM 120GXP's in RAID 0.

I need all that space for my Kazaa porn :).

-DragonSlayer

well i doubt if you will not buy any drives soon
you are going to need at least three times your storage space as of now in a year or two:D

slight overkill with 2 WD SE 120 GB HD's in raid 0. For the mathematically inclined that is 240 GB!

Minor league storage hehe

I have 180gb in here now, and 240 more gb on their way soon.

You can never have too much storage. Especially when it comes to anime.

My windows install + just a few games and proggies is already 10gb. I haven't even started installing all my games, as I am waiting on this hard drive deal to go through.

As per my sig, but i'm going to go for SATA RAID pretty soon, thinking 2*120 Gb - hell why not ?

Make sure you snag a little 80bg WD spec ed for your os and proggies, and use that raid array as one huge partition for storage. Partitioning a raid array hurts performance bad, as it must cut up 2 actual drives into 1 virtual partition. Horrible situation I tell ya

According to df | perl -e 'while (<>) {$sum+=(split)[1];} print "$sum\n";' I have 367914614 kbytes (351 Gbytes). But that doesn't include the 40gig drive that is in a non-networked computer. So I guess ~390G total.

2 WD 80GB SE's. only using one ATM. planned on using the second for linux but it doesn't like me much. i haven't learned how to talk to it. voted 160. if i really wanted to get technical i could add thje 20GB in mom's computer and the 8 in the IBM soon to be a folding slave.

60 & 40 gb maxtors. Never thought I'd need this much space till I got a relatively uncloged 2mbit cable line :D

Until you get a USENET server connection like the one my ISP grants me (~90% of my max line speed  ), you don't know how annoying backups get or how precious freespace is. Took me a full week just to backup my 60 to format/partition it. FYI I'm still not over 30gb of freespace, and thats w/o any games on atm (Windows hates me). Just a few years ago it cost us $100 per gig. Now its less than $1.25 per gig on almost any bigger high-end IDE drive.

What JimboZ88 said about his Quantums made me remember my little [now fallen] star from long ago.
