@Jmtyra - this whole thing needs reworked... and should basically be superseded by the thread started by IMOG.

That thread can be picked up by anyone looking to take it on - I got a start, but I don't have the time to see it through. I do think its a good idea and a good direction for the team however.

If someone wants to take it over, update it, and compile more information into it, they are welcome. Currently deadlysyn, adak, and harlam have rights to edit it, but they are often busy with other things too.

This is the master thread that was supposed to get all this sort of stuff into it:
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646391

Would it be a better idea to just start a new thread, and copy over the relevant data?

@IMOG, can you PM me the start that you..er..started?

Well it took two months, but I finally started on this project. Sorry it took so long -- I know I'm a slacker :p

It'll probably take awhile until it's completely filled out, updated, polished, etc.

Edit: Looking for some feedback regarding the thread name, please.
(I don't like what it's currently called...but not 100% sure what would sound better...)

Looks like a decent start, but you should include jumpto's and anchors to make getting around all the information easier.

Here is an example of using jumpto and anchor tags from the thread I linked previously. This shows the necessary bbcode, which lets readers click on the table of contents, and jump to the section they are interested in.

Basically, using the aname bbcode tag creates an anchor. If you then create a jumpto bbcode tag with the same name as the anchor you already created, then whatever you put inside the jumpto bbcode tag will jump you to the anchor with the same name when its clicked. Makes navigation of really complex threads easier. I'd also put everything into a single post... the multiple separate posts clutter things up. If you want me to, I can merge all your posts in that thread into one - will only take me a few clicks rather than you copying and pasting and editing it back together.

This is a work in progress I started 6/16/10, and it will never really be complete, but in its current state there is A LOT that needs to be added. Please post suggestions or feedback in this thread. I hope to have this in a more near-complete state by the weeks end.

harlam357 (7/23/10) - more work to be done but this cleans things up a little bit and get the guide links working. I need to clean up/rename the 'Intro' and 'FAQ' and maybe push some links from this to those threads... especially the 'FAQ' is has more in-depth info... something like "further info see here" kinda links might be good.

Installing Folding@Home can be very simple, or very complex - it all depends on how you want to participate. The install guides are broken down by which Operating System you will use, then they are broken down by client type (Single CPU, SMP CPU, and GPU). Installing and running the client is very easy. Down the road you may want to optimize your setup to be as efficient as possible, earning the most points possible - that process can be quite complex. This guide aims to simplify the optimization process for you.

[aname="monitoring"][SIZE="3"][U][B][COLOR="DarkOrange"]3. Monitoring[/COLOR][/B][/U][/SIZE][/aname]

Team 32 recommends using HFM.NET to monitor your Folding@Home client or multiple clients on multiple machines. It is a free, open source application for Windows and Linux that allows you to quickly see the status of your Folding@Home client(s) in one easy to use program.

Thanks for the feedback -- I hadn't added the anchors yet, but definitely will.

Regarding the multiple posts, is there a limit to how long a single post can be? It'll be *very* long once everything has been updated and such. If there isn't a limit, then yes, please combine them if it's easy to do on your end.

Thanks again for the info, and once the holidays are over I'll have a few days to sit down and hammer this out.

:)
