wich cpu and motherboard buy for best performance

I want to buy a new cpu and motherboard for games.

what does the cost look like for a AMD 5600G/5600X combo? other wise that looks like a good choice.

That's not too bad but I'm not a fan of the 11th gen Intel CPU's. You'd be better off seeing if they do the 10700K / 10850K for less money as the performance was in some ways better than the 11700K.
If you can wait a little while the 12400K maybe out soon and that should be excellent value/performance. Or as suggested the 5600G/5600X with B550 motherboard is also very good.
