Note: Taken from an HP dv7-2270us laptop

I recently built this computer. I used my old hard drive from my HP dv7 laptop that was loaded with Windows Pro. When I started up the computer I was never asked to install the operating system. Infact when it loaded it loaded as if I was still on my laptop. The windows lock screen came up and showed my name. I entered my password and up popped my desktop. It had the background, all the icons, and I even tried some of the programs and they worked. I am not sure if this means that I already have windows pro or not and am woundering if someone can explain this to me. I have already purchased Windows 7 Pro SP1 to load but have not used it yet.

Can somebody tell me if I still need to load the new windows from the disk?

Am I ok to just keep going as I am?

If I keep using it like this will I still be able to get updates and use all normal functions of Windows Pro?

Is there anything I can do to check to make sure I have full functionality of Windows Pro?

Thank you all for your help.

SV1? You mean SP1 (Service Pack 1)? Also which version of 'windows pro' XP Pro, W7 Pro......

If its not bickering at you (yet?) to activate, then you are fine.

Try going to updates and see. Should be ok...

As far as functionality, use it and see if my best advice. :)

Ha ha ha. I'm an idiot. It's Windows 7 Pro. Guess that helps huh? lol. Thank you for advice. I'll try doing updates when I get home. That should tell me if it's good.
