Greetings, this is my first thread on this forum. Anyways, Im looking to build a new rig since my 3 year old one is getting obsolete. I feel like a total newb again but so far I know I want a comp with a Core 2 Duo E6300 chip, and 800Mhz DDR2, but I cant deside on a motherboard. I found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813186102
which is in my budget but in the bottom right corner of the specs I see this:

Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets.

Does this mean Im limited to 1.8v RAM with 5/6 timings? Also, would I be better off getting a board that can support 2.1v DIMMs? The reason I chose this board is because its in my budget, supports the CPU I want, along with a high memory hertage. If theres something else out there that would fit me better please let me know. Im looking to only have 1 Sata2 drive, 1x X1900XT card, and possibly 2 gigs of RAM. The computer will mainly be used for CAD and gaming. Also what does JEDEC stand for? I feel like a newb all over again. :bang head

Maybe you should think about this board instead of you want to o/c it,

Its a Gigabyte S3 for 115.99 which is a better product than the one you listed. JEDEC is the group responsible memory approval. Like back when pc3200 was what was listed as an approved memory for use by manufacturers even though you could use pc4000. Get what Im saying?

Oh and:welcome: to the forums

Thanks for the reply BigDan. Im starting to think of shying away from the 965 chipset though. I heard the P version was pretty good but I am also hearing a lot about how finiky it is with RAM and IDE drives. Purhaps the 975 would be a better choice? Just looking for good performance and mild overclocking. Also something that can support the OCZ platinum R2 RAM I just bought too.

priced nicly are in around 180
dfi 975x/g max ocing around 380ish
abit aw9d max fsb 450-460<---highly recommended

Gigabyte fixed most all of those problems with the very early releases of ths bios for the DS3 board. The only bug they still have outstanding that I know of relates to 1gb 1066 modules. I don't even have a core2 and my 920 will easily run over 1200fsb. So I wouldn't count out the 965P-DS3.

Also, MicroCenter came out with a sale on Friday for the E6300. They have an oem chip for around $150. Might help you out on the finances.

I thought I should add this.
