I'm researching case & cpu fans & am not clear what connections supply 12v & which supply 5v. That is, what voltage do the motherboard fan headers supply & what voltage do the psu lines supply?

Fan header on mobo = 12 volts, cpu header can vary voltage with fan control in bios.

PSU: yellow = 12 volts
" ": red = 5 volts
" ": blacks = ground

Thanks the input!

Would you please clarify your psu info. The only way I'm familiar with connecting a fan to a psu lead is via a 4-pin molex connection. Those have yellow, red & black leads.

Case fans use 12v. The 5v is just for harddrives and optical drives.

4-pin Molex = yellow 12v power, red 5v power, both black are grounds.

3-pin fan connector = 12v power, RPM, ground (seen them use different color schemes, but only 12v power, no 5v).
