I have a SATA hard drive pulled from a parted out PC.
How can I transfer files from it to my laptop.
without using another PC?

Is there a way to do this? Thanks

Or get a USB -> IDE/SATA cable, should run you $10-$20. You could also potentially remove your laptops optical drive and connect the other HDD that way (assuming it's a 2.5" drive, otherwise it'll probably need external power).

Trying to do this without buying parts. The Dell Vostro 1000 laptop has a 5400rpm hard drive. So would that be a 2.5" drive? I assume I'd need to use a linux distro on a flash drive for an OS since this loose drive has no OS.

Here's a comparison of 2.5" (laptop) to 3.5" (desktop) hard drives:

If they're both laptop drives, you might be able to replace the optical drive in your laptop with the second hard drive, you wouldn't need linux or anything for it to read it. This depends heavily on the model of your laptop, though as to whether or not it's doable.

More than likely, though, you'll need to end up buying a cable or enclosure to do what you need.
