I think I’m getting either a M2500 or M2600 soon. Is there any reason to get the 2500 over the 2600? I thought I read that ALL 2500’s were unlocked and that it’s a gamble with the 2600’s. Is this true?

Would it be better to hold off, and get a M2800 or M3000? I'm going to be using a Swiftech Water kit with a NF7-S 2.0 Mobo.

Any advice would be cool.

Thanks,
BR

The K7 core is at the end of its lifeline. A mobile 2800 or mobile 3000 can't be 1.45 vcore on socket A. They're not making a 90 nm process for socket a. They're going to make 90nm socket 754 32bit processor based on the k8 core. I recommend a 2600m since I play safe and pay more than be sorry. There isn't a difference between the two but the 2600 is guarenteed at 2ghz while the 2500 is guarenteed at 1.86. I don't know if the 2600 is a 166x12.5 or 133x15, I get conflicting reports because some are locked at 12.5 multi and some are not.

I wish you luck in ur overclocking

From what I gathered, I've seen better O/C results from the 2500+ than the 2600+. *shrug*

I was in the same dilemma yesterday, I just went ahead and hand picked a 2500+ stepping from ExcaliberPC yesterday.

common ppl, what's that i hear? :p

m2600+ locked? nope. all the mobiles right now are unlocked. 2600+ is almost guaranteed 2.4Mhz with a room to grow while 2500+'s are a luck of the draw, unless you handpick the stepping, of course.

either way, the main point is - don't let your expectations lead you to dissapointment, gentelmen. mobiles are good overclockers but the best results of which we hear are achieved with pretty high-end cooling and lots of time invested. if you can do 2.3-2.5MHz without ripping a hole in space-time continium :p, be happy with it.

wow that helped alot, i was going for the 2500 but i think ill get the 2600, thx again

unreal's right, pay attention to the steppings, they might mean 100-200MHz dif for you.

What would be the best stepping?

AQYHA 0346XPMW

IQZFA 0347XPMW

or

IQYHA 0351MPMW

These are all M2600 chips.

Thanks,
