generic VPN setup guide???

Hello

Is there a generic VPN setup guide that allows someone with ADSL at home and work to connect to home from work or work from home?

I use SSH tunnels and VNC myself but a friend wants to use VPN to/from and from/to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no single way to connect to a VPN.

First, there are basically 3 types of VPN:
-> IPSec (Secure IP Traffic)
-> L2TP (Tunneling for any traffic, not just IP. Older versions include:
---> PPTP(a PPP tunnel)
---> L2F
-> SSH tunnels (not really a VPN)

The first two can be gotten to by using the VPN wizard by plugging in your work's VPN endpoint's hostname, your username and password.
