How does a CPU send information to the motherboard

Is it through the pins? Because I don't think the actual core comes in contact with the motherboard. So how do they communicate?
 
The pins on the cpu have a variety of uses. Some are used to supply power to the core of the CPU, some are used to transfer data.

On most CPUs, the CPU communicates with the chipset, which controls access to things like memory, storage, graphics and expansion cards.
