hiya

i decided to try to mod my system a bit
i've had excellent success in the past, and cringe when i dee guys using pencil mods ( sure it works, but ... not in my box )

i have a camera, at school, i use it to copy notes and stuff.

i have a 7900ggs to mod . and a msi k8n diamond.
it is running ok right now
i have a 3700 cpu that clock to 3+ on air ... ( good rev)

my last system i volt modded a radeon 9800 pro, it ran good for a long time in that configuration.
i just moved , and i grabbed what i could, all my tools and stuff are packed away. it may take awhile to sort it out. i love volt mods.

what PCB dyu have with the 7900GS? mine is a really wierd one and im looking for a gcore volt mod.

GD luck with it all...looks like it could be fun.

i havn't had a good look at it yet.
still playing with dividers and doing a "proper" oc.
but so far so good. i can easily get the 2.2 to over 2.8
but for some reason i can't seem to push my ram,
it just refuses to heat up at all, but that will change very soon.

i think mine is the second one.
i intend to go 1.4 on the core and then see what happens with the mem.

right now i'm running 281 ht, cas 3, and a 5 cpu divider.
...i think i forgot to divide my ram .. yeah i did it is running at 240
 
My eVGA 7900GS FLEW when I voltmodded it. Went from a measly max of about 590mhz on the core to 745mhz with 1.55v! I did a small pencil mod on the memory (~2.2-2.25v), but it ended up making my card unstable after playing for a while so I brushed it off and lowered the clock a bit. By the way, I used a circuit pen (whatever they're called) to mod my vcore, was really quick and easy. I found the tutorial on here actually. I'll try and find a link.

Guess it wasn't here. Oh well, here you are. That's 1.5v, I can't find the one for 1.55v. I know one of the points just under the ground is an extra 0.05v, but I don't want to tell you the wrong one. I'll try to pull my GS out and look and edit a pic to show you, if I remember.

The purple is what I added.

I would go all the way for 1.55v if you have the cooling :) I used a cheap VGA watercooler from newegg ($35) and I think it reached like 55C max. Good luck :)

just finished doing the mobo oc
1.45v 2.2 @ 2.75 = 69 C
1.375v 2.2 @ 2.74 = 60 C
i just bumped it up to 1.4 on cpu. it still stays cool enough.
i can get higher but i insist on 100% stability.

1.232v stock on vcard
i pulled out my stuff, got it all ready.
that is some seriously tiny solder points . heh
but it is all doable.
i want to do the 1.4 on a stock cooler
and i'll see if i can find a smd resistor to do the mem mod.
i maybe have one, should have one, but i'll have to dig for it.

after mod
that was some intense soldering
anyway done and done

i used ...

sn 63 pb 37 .015" solder.
attached it to the "pad" first then looped it around
attached a "blob" onto the track.
( looking carefully at the pcb, you can see it is just a hole that pokes through the track. )
then carefully attach the looped end onto the blob.
no wire. all just a solder wire.

pretty flippin' sweet it i say so myself

i am not a fan of pencil mods.
sure, it is a cheap and easy , and quite ingenious method.
but, from where i sit, it is seriously mickey mouse, when you can just go get
proper equipment for a few bucks, and do it like a pro.

i will leave it like that for awhile , and play around with the clocks after my heart settles down .. heh
 
Glad to hear you were successful! :thup: How are your temps and clocks with the added voltage?

And after pencil modding my vmem, I don't think I'll bother with it again. The stability problems were pretty troublesome. Although, I still think using a conductive ink pen is the way to go for small points and distances like the vcore.

.599 .600 K ohm ? i forget how to read my meter, and i lost _ALL_ my resistors. i got none. zip.( except the one off my old card, which for some strange reason appears to be the one i need )

so , if i got this right, the target is for 553-560 ohm ,

which means i need a 8 K ish resistor....
the one off my old card is a 8.18 - which gives a 559 ohm resistance - the exact number.
but again, those are some wicked small solder points.
not too sure about this mod . i will think about it for awhile.

i pushed it hard and the temp went to 92C, so no vmem mod for me. seems stable enough 650/850
i could do it, i would attach "legs" onto the smd, then solder those down , or go to the store and see if they have these new ultra small devices on the shelf, which i doubt. because they are too small to solder by hand, ... for mere mortals ....
