I use automotive swirl remover on a 100% cotton cloth, but deeper scratches require starting with harsher polish. Rub from the center to the edge, not in a circular motion.

Don't use cleanser (Bon Ami actually scratches badly) or toothpaste (not even Colgate regular).

im sure many will say its a stupid idea, but i've seen my old roommate repair several cds succesfully with a lighter

dont get em scratched. and take it out of your friends skin if they scatch yours.

Try automotive wax, put it on let dry wipe off with soft clean dry rag. Also I found this stuff http://perma-spin.com/ a few years ago which is basically just wax, wipe on let it dry wipe off and it has repaired some very badly dmged cd's of mine with 100% success.
